Off to Uganda in a couple of weeks
Im off to Uganda in a couple of weeks to start my year working as an Education Consultant for a charity called Promoting Equality in African Schools (PEAS). Im really excited but, as predicted, running around trying to sort last minute details.
Im currently working as a Humanities teacher in a Secondary School in Nottingham. What with Sports Day, G.C.S.E exams, end of term celebrations, its amazing to think that in just a few weeks I will be living in Kampala.
Being an Education Consultant will be a new challenge for me. I have hugely enjoyed my 2 years as a teacher in Nottingham. However, I had always wanted to work in International Development. I feel, that with the kind support of Hazels Footprints, I will now be able to use the skills I have developed in England to make an impact in more disadvantaged communities. As part of my role I will be visiting the network of schools across the country that have been set up by PEAS, carrying out inspections, delivering staff training workshops and working with Ugandan teaching staff and Senior Leadership Teams to help develop systems and processes to ensure PEAS schools are delivering high quality education.
Ive never been to Uganda before and, even though Ive excitedly been reading everything I can about the country in the past few weeks, I cant wait to get out there and see what its really like. Although its clearly a very beautiful country, the thing Im most looking forward to is meeting new people and immersing myself in a new culture. I seems like Ive got an awful lot to learn and am very excited about the challenge.
