Despite the weather looking decidedly ropey, just over 50 intrepid rounders players took to Inverleith Park in Edinburgh for the first ever HFT Rounders Tournament. With most not having played since their school days there was much arguing over the rules and a couple of umpires got some stick over their decisions. However, with the Thistly Cross Cider chilling and the BBQs heating up the tournament got off to an enthusiastic start.
It would be fair to say that everyone found their inner competitive-self coming out at some point during the evening. Team talks about tactics as to where the most awkward place to hit the ball was when batting, and who to throw the ball to in order to get key people out when fielding were rife. Rounders were being scored here, there and everywhere as the balls went flying (as some of the bats accidentally did as well!) meaning a lot of matches ended with very tight scores.
Team MacNeal are victorious!
In the end it was Team Harper versus Team MacNeal who were through to the final having both won all of their three matches during the heats. The stakes were high and both teams were eager for the victory but as the umpire called time on the match it was Team MacNeal who had sealed the victory with a score of 7 rounders to 4.
Our huge thanks go to everyone who came to play and to Thistly Cross Cider for providing a case of their ciders as a prize for the winning team. The evening raised just under £600 which is fantastic. Thank you for your support!
