We’ve recently had some exciting news from Charles Coldman, the director of African Promise, who provide better primary schools for Kenyan children. HFT is building and funding the whole project – and we’re really pleased to see it all coming together. Here’s a little extract from an email we received from Charles.
Youll be delighted to hear that I am out here to finalise the plans for Ngambenyi and to launch the project. Please find attached a final site plan which shows the proposed layout of the new school, subject to final approval from the school committee at our next meeting on Monday.
We are in the process of constructing a temporary store room to keep the construction materials secure and dry, and we have begun transporting the many hundreds of tonnes of hardcore, gravel and sand that we will need throughout the project. Once the store is complete we will arrange for the first delivery of cement and water (it is bone dry here at the moment so we are going to have to buy in water from bowsers until the rains arrive) so that we can begin work on the concrete blocks and bricks, which each require a week or so of curing.
I anticipate that construction work proper will begin in April, although we may have already marked and dug the foundations by then.
I am very eager and excited to get started on the work – we have many new ideas that I hope will make this the best school we have built to date – and I look forward to keeping you regularly updated on our progress.
