The all new Hazel’s Footprints Website
By Bill Scott Aiton
Welcome to our fantastic all-new website. A huge huge thanks to Pete Moore for all the hours of work he has put in to get it up and running. Im not sure he realized what an undertaking he was volunteering for but youll all agree Im sure what a great job he has done.
We only hope that Hazel appreciated what an amazing and loyal group of friends she had around her at school and Durham University. Your continued support of the Trust and staying in touch has been a great comfort and joy to Joan and I, as we see you all moving through life.
The first two aims of the Trust are now well established with Otjikondo School in Namibia where Hazel and Peter both had a Gap Year getting their annual donation and our annual band of about 15 Footprinters heading out all over the world, to help in the education of less fortunate children.
One of the main reasons for requiring a new website was so that people who are wishing to take a Gap Year can come onto our website and research through all the archived reports how folk have got on in a certain country or with a certain organization as there is a lot of baffling and confusing information out there for anyone Googling Gap Year.
Our Third Aim has become much more important than we ever imagined thanks to all the fantastic fund raising people do (and hopefully will continue to do) for us. We have supported many projects ranging from buying a few books for a school, painting murals, building/renovating classrooms and hostels to even providing toilet blocks.
One of our latest ones is collaboration between The Catherine Bullen Foundation and ourselves to provide a hostel for a school in Eastern Namibia. This is particularly poignant as Catherine was in Namibia when she was taken ill and tragically died two years before Hazel to the day on August 23rd. Her parents have done an amazing amount of work in her memory in this very poor area of Namibia to provide better schooling and facilities and we are very pleased to be joining them on this particular project.
This is only one example of Third Aims we have supported: renovation of classrooms and girls loos in Kenya in collaboration with Charles Coldman of African Promise; support for a new school at Ghap, Nepal five days walk up into the Himalayas from the end of the road; supporting Durham Uni (Hazels Alma Mater) with educational resources to go to Tanzania; help with providing funds for a teacher with Team Kenya. These are just some of the most recent ones – go to Achievements under The Trust for a more complete list and youll see why your money is so well used by Hazels Footprints Trust with neglible running costs and then please, please follow it up with a visit to Five Ways To Donate under Fundraising. A huge THANK YOU in anticipation!
Lastly a sincere thank you must go to Tom Madden of Quix who has patiently hosted our website since its inception, putting up with our lack of computer skills as we have learnt our way about.
ENJOY!!! And support please.
